Bucs Will Take 8 Wrestlers To State Tourney This Weekend

For the frst time in over a decade, Tonkawa will take eight wrestlers to the Class 3A state tournament Friday and Saturday.

“This is a credit to the leadership of our older kids in the program,” Head Coach Russell Martin said.  “They have made a hugh impact on our younger wrestlers. We’re so proud of our kids. They were all business at regionals and went out and took care of business.”

First round matches will get under way at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the state fair arena.
Tonkawa has eight wrestlers qualifed for the Class 3A state wrestling tournament this Friday and Saturday at Oklahoma City’s State Fair Arena. See related stories page 7. First round consolations will get under way at 5 p.m. Friday and semi-fnals at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Consolation semi-fnals will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and consolation fnals at 12:45 p.m.

The fnals will be at 5:45 p.m. Saturday with awards following.

The last time Tonkawa took 8 wrestlers to state came in 1999 when the Bucs were runners-up for the state title.

First round matches for Tonkawa qualifers follow:
  • 103 -- Josh Ailey, 23-4, vs. Josh Lambert of Cascia Hall, 31-5.
  • 119 -- Hunter Martin, 16-6, vs. Davey Doland of Berryhill, 31-4.
  • 125 -- Reece Simpson, 16-11, vs. Jaycee Dismuke, Bethel, 28-6.
  • 140 -- Tyran Brown, 21-5, vs. Kyle Jaquess, Barnsdall, 25-4.
  • 145 -- Jose Martinez, 15-8, vs. Beau Shaw, Barnsdall, 25-9.
  • 152 -- Kramer Simpson, 24-2, vs. Hank Powell of Pawhuska, 22-7.
  • 189 -- Jake Love, 24-0, vs. Justus Kerby of Pawhuska, 19-10.
  • 215 -- Edwin Gallardo, 25-5, vs. Kyle Cowan, Cascia Hall, 36-0.
