Written by KYLE KENDRICK - The Ponca City News. Posted in News

Sophomore right-hander Ben Hook got the start for the Bucs throwing a complete game allowing just three hits. Mike Coleman meanwhile got the nod for the Longhorns and also threw a complete game giving up just two hits.

The lone Tonkawa run came in the top of the first inning. The Bucs got singles from both Reece Simpson and Brekken Grein and when shortstop Trent Ellis was hit by a pitch the bases were loaded for Hook. Hook struck out but when strike three got past the Chisholm catcher Simpson scampered in to score.

The lead would be short-lived however as Chisholm answered in the bottom half of the frame. The Longhorns got all three of their hits in the in the inning including a double from Coleman. Despite the three hits and one Bucs’ error Chisholm only scored two runs in the inning, leaving two runners on base.

From there on out the two pitchers matched each other zero for zero until the bottom of the sixth when Chisholm managed to scratch out one more run on a walk no hits and a Tonkawa error. The run gave the Longhorns a 3-1 lead and it was more than enough of a cushion for Coleman.

The Chisholm pitcher wasted no time in the seventh, and despite Simpson reaching on an error, cruised to another scoreless inning giving the Longhorns the win.

Tonkawa won’t have much time to get over the loss as they hit the diamond again Monday for a home game against the Blackwell Maroons. Monday’s game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Lady Bucs Headed To State

Written by Tonkawa BucsWeb. Posted in News

Lady Bucs Celebrate After Winning The Area Consolation ChampionshipThe Tonkawa Lady Bucs will be taking on the Thomas-Fay-Custer Lady terriers Thursday in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament.  Tonkawa comes in with a 27-1 record, with their only loss coming to Colcord in the area championship game.  Thomas meanwhile is 22-1.  The lone blemish on Thomas' schedule this season was a 38-27 loss to the Fairview Lady Yellowjackets, who also qualified for the state tournament.

Thursday's contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Oklahoma City University.  The earlier start time is something that Tonkawa head coach Mark Huster thinks will benefit his team.

"For us personally I think it's a good thing that we play at 2 because that way the girls don't have to think about it all day.  I know some of the fans may not like the time because maybe they can't get off work but I think the sooner we get on the bus and to the gym the better," Huster said.
